Well, not sex, in this case, but I remember the College Republicans doing dumb stunts like this back when I was in college, back when we had to carry around textbooks printed on actual paper.

And of course it’s just more elitist horseshit. When they have a bake sale letting students whose parents were alumni get first pick of the cupcakes, or giving out free glasses of milk to students from privileged backgrounds, get back to me; then they might have a point about how higher education gives more benefits to certain groups. Until then, they’re like a sprinter who says nothing while their opponent has 50-pound weights tied to his ankles, and then throws a hissy fit when to offset the weights he’s given a quarter-second head start.

The above e-mail today from a friend was how I found out about the results of the Proposition 8 ruling (which the District Court apparently slipped under the door into the court’s press room and then ran like hell; it wasn’t read aloud in court).

I am bummed that I am out of the city and so can’t participate in the celebration, but still OMG OMG SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

And yes, I told my friend she should leave work early in case the court is persuaded to impose a stay. In the meantime, you can read the entire opinion here.

Actually read the ballot measures. Not jus the summaries; the measure itself. If you can’t understand it, chances are you shouldn’t be supporting it. If someone who supports it can’t explain it to you, chances are they’re dishonest, it’s a train wreck of a measure, or both.

Look at who is supporting what. Also known as, “follow the money”. If an environmental ballot measure is heavily funded by an Astroturf industry group, chances are it’s not really a pro-environment measure.

If you don’t know a candidate on the ballot or don’t know much about the office, don’t vote. This is the universe’s way of telling you to be better prepared next time.

You can get time off to work if you cannot vote during normal working hours.

You have to live with these choices for anywhere from four to infinity years. Choose wisely.

is today, October 11. If you’re out or don’t need to be because you’re straight, there are other things you can do: show support for LGBT friends and relatives, work to stop cretinous ballot initiatives from becoming law, tell your political representatives that you want them to support laws and policies that promote equality for all.

Yesterday, The Queen mentioned something she was doing as part of her LGBT Alliance club at school. I didn’t know she was a member. She hadn’t thought it such a big deal that she needed to make a big deal about it. It is.

The main difference being that cockroaches don’t have the ability to whine loudly about how you’re shining light on them.

It just occurred to me that same-sex couples have been allowed to marry in California for over 24 hours now, so I thought I’d better check in with Samwise. To my great relief, the foundations of our opposite-sex marriage have not yet crumbled, and our children remain blissfully unaware of the Homosexual Agenda. Maybe this is process is slower than we’d anticipated.
