And of course it’s just more elitist horseshit. When they have a bake sale letting students whose parents were alumni get first pick of the cupcakes, or giving out free glasses of milk to students from privileged backgrounds, get back to me; then they might have a point about how higher education gives more benefits to certain groups. Until then, they’re like a sprinter who says nothing while their opponent has 50-pound weights tied to his ankles, and then throws a hissy fit when to offset the weights he’s given a quarter-second head start.

So consider this a plea, on behalf of those of us who are sick of all the whining and doubletalk: please grow a pair. When you complain about political correctness, we hear “Man, if only we were still back in the good ol’ days, when I could stomp all over other people with impunity!” That’s what you really mean, so why not just come right out and say it? Own your selfishness and sadism.

And, may I add, stop whining about how other people need to ‘get over it’ and ‘stop being so thin-skinned’, then crying like a bully who just got hit back for the first time when somebody is  mean to you and how awful it is they made you feel guilty.

And damn if the thread doesn’t immediately get clunked on by people who amaze you only by their ability to type with fingers jammed firmly in their ears, going OMFG U CALLED ME AN OPPRESSOR!! and “Racism? That’s so twentieth century, darling” and “But shouldn’t we wait for people of color to come to us before we acknowledge they have a role in SF?”

Oh Internets, just once, I would love you to surprise me.

American Airlines Flight 590, with 126 passengers on board, had been scheduled to depart Lindbergh Field at 11 p.m. Tuesday. In an interview yesterday, Robbins said she was sitting in the back of the plane with her children, awaiting the departure from the gate, when one of the Iraqis walked by to use the restroom.

She heard him “clunking around” inside the bathroom. When he came out, he had a suspicious look on his face, she said.

“He looked so mean, the way he was looking at everyone,” Robbins said. “It was very frightening, like something out of a movie.”

Robbins gathered up her sons, ages 9 and 4, and demanded to be let off the plane. The crew complied with her request, but the resulting delay meant the plane couldn’t take off by Lindbergh Field’s 11:30 p.m. curfew. The airline was forced to postpone the departure until 10:15 a.m. the next day.

Oh no! Arabic men having to pee is a national security threat! Just like in a movie, perhaps one titled “Asshole on a Plane”, starring Julia Roberts as a hysterical twit who hopes that throwing a hissy fit about sharing a plane with an Ay-rab will make her a heroine.

Yet another incident to make one regret that “criminal stupidity” is not a felony offense in most states.

I doubt that the poll tracks anything like the way actual voters would actually behave. For one thing, it probably suffers from response bias; few people are likely to tell a pollster something they feel makes them look like a sexist or a bigot. Worse, though, is that it assumes an answer to an abstract question can be applied to actual candidates. Asking whether a voter would reject a candidate out-of-hand purely because of their sex, or race, doesn’t tell us much about what standards that voter applies to female or minority candidates. Theoretically willing to vote for some female candidate says nothing about how a person will judge an actual female candidate, or whether they will apply biased and/or disproportionately high standards and scrutiny to that candidate.

The shorter, cynical version is that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would have been candidates by now if they were white guys.
